Title: Dexamethasone in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV): Comparison with droperidol and metoclopramid after abdominal surgery

Abstract: Antiemetic effect of droperidol and metoclopramid has been studied extensively. The effectiveness of dexamethasone for the prevention of PONV is reported recently. Material and methods: We studied 90 patients, ASA I-III, aged 18-72 y. requiring general anesthesia for abdominal surgery in a double-blind study, randomly allocated to either the dexamethasone group, droperidol or metoclopramid group. A standardized general anaesthetic technique was used including benzodiazepin for premedication, midazolam for induction and maintains of anaesthesia, fentanly, isofluran in N2O/O2 and pancuronium.
