Author: Metodijeski, Dejan
Abstract: Hip hop culture is a modern phenomenon that began its global spread through hip hop music in the past three decades. The purpose of this paper is to research the hip hop culture in Bulgaria, through the analysis of the activities of the most influential music publishing houses since the beginning of this millennium. For the needs of the paper, secondary sources of data were used by consulting relevant literature as well as the Internet. Basically, we can divide the development of Bulgarian hip hop into three waves. The first wave covers the beginnings of Bulgarian hip hop. The paper covers the second wave of Bulgarian hip hop, shown through the publishing activity of SNIPER and R'N'B Records. The results of the research show that in the period from 2000 to 2005, in Bulgaria, these two music publishing houses published 24 albums of different artists. This publishing activity and the production of music albums contribute to the emergence of the third wave of Bulgarian hip hop.
