Title: Software Systems for Collaborative Work

Author: Markovski, Goran

Abstract: There are many organizations where information are not properly organized and stored in one place, and often happens that more employees have several different versions of a document, which leads to inconsistent performance in institution. To overcome these problems, it is more than is necessary to take into account the use of collaborative systems, which include collaborative programs as a basis for calculating supported cooperative work. Within the collaborative environment teams can get more resources, feedback and use iterative processes to improve mutual work, whereas they learn from each other and have the opportunity to change the manner of work, creating better results. Collaboration is a process where team members work together to achieve common objectives/goals. In addition, they exchange knowledge and build a consensus for achieving the objective/goal. A typical example of a software program for more effective and more efficient team collaboration is Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) is based on the functionality provided by Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0). The applicative solution presented in this master thesis is developed in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 platform. This master thesis and the solution presented in it show how modern information technologies can meet the demands of the modern business world and business processes. Specifically, the solution should meet the requirements in the Department of Information Technology in the institution for collaboration between staff in the institution (which may be located at different physical locations) through a task management system, automatic document management system, electronic notification system and other functionalities, in order to improve the operations and increase the efficiency and effectiveness in performing of the working tasks.
