Title: Obtaining and characterization of composite material base on ablative phenolic resin and carbon fibers

Author: Srebrenkoska, Vineta

Abstract: In this master paper is optimized a technological treatment for production of a molding compound based on short carbon fibers and ablative phenol- formaldehyde resin for high temperature application. The characterization of the starting raw materials is performed and molding compounds with different fiber/matrix ratio and different fiber length are obtained. From the different lab-samples molded parts are made by thermocompression. All physical, mechanical and thermal properties of the composites are tested. From the obtained results the optimal fiber/matrix ratio are determined for production molding compound for high temperature application. Optimization of compozite material molding process is carried out therefore all requirements for high mechanical properties and high composite thermal stability are obtained. The optimization is carried out by applying a mathematical metod of a planned experiment. For investigation the full factorial experimental design is used in which these parameters are varied: fiber length, temperature and time of the press cycle. The regression equoations are obtained to the regarding the influence of the parameters of impact resistance, compression strength, flexurel strength and the modulus of elasticity. The obtained mechanical results has justified the application of this composite material in automotive, leasure, military and other industries where high temperature resistance and high mechanical strength is required.
