Title: Denture-induced fibrous hyperplasia – Review of literature and own cases report

Abstract: AIM: to demonstrate the contemporary approach and the interdisciplinary management of denture-induced fibrous hyperplasia. Various names have been given - epulis fissuratum, reactive fibrous hyperplasia, inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia; denture injury tumor; denture epulis. Etiology is chronic irritation repeating trauma from denture flange making lesion as reactive hyperplasia. Most cases occur in the presence of an ill-fitting denture in which tissue responds hyperplastically from movement of denture. May be localized or widespread and hyperplastic tissue parallels alveolar ridge. It is more common in middle-aged and older females. MATERIAL, METOD AND RESULTS: - several patients with fibrous hyperplasia are presented with lessons in the frontal and posterior area of maxilla. Treatment consists conservative surgical excision (procedure of removing the excess tissue) and replace/repair denture. The hyperplastic tissue usually represents only result of an inflammatory process, but other pathologic conditions may exist. It is therefore imperative that representative tissue samples always be submitted for pathologic examinationafter removal. The poorly fitting denture should be remade or relined. CONCLUSIONS: - precise diagnosis is essential for the best treatment plan; it validates the treatment time and allows reduces possible complications. Lesion will recur (or remain) if ill-fitting denture is not remade or relined.
