Abstract: Зборувате ли македонски? (Do You Speak Macedonian?) is the first course book for teaching conversational Macedonian to foreigners. Made on the basis of the communicative approach, it aims at teaching foreign learners enough Macedonian so that they can freely and confidently communicate in a Macedonian speaking environment. Accordingly, the course introduces all features of the Macedonian language essential for effective communication. The course covers all aspects of Macedonian language and integrates them into three basic fields: topic, function and grammar. Each topic builds the students’ vocabulary; each function focuses upon a conversational context, for example, meeting and introducing people, shopping, requesting, etc.; grammatical rules and explanations are provided to enable the student to achieve accuracy in speech and an understanding of the basic mechanics of the Macedonian language. The methodological approach of this course is communicative, i.e. the creation of real life situations which encourage the student to actively engage the Macedonian language. The topics and functions selected are natural and lively. By covering the book, students will develop all four skills needed for successful communication: listening, reading, speaking and writing.
